This Did Not Work Out as I Had Planned
For some reason, when I saw this Lacoste ad, I was convinced that it looked exactly like the cover of The Witches, and I got really, really excited about it.
And then, of course, it only bore the most marginal resemblance to the classic Quentin Blake illustration (below), and I was completely bummed about it, but am pushing through anyway because, you know, who doesn’t love The Witches?
And they do share similarly abrupt angles and the Lacoste model almost looks like she’s wearing gloves. She clearly does have toes, though, and normal nostrils, and we’re not quite close enough to stare into the “middle of each eye where there is normally a little black dot.” Because, obvi, If she’s a witch, “the black dot will keep changing colour, and you will see fire and you will see ice dancing right in the very centre of the coloured dot. It will send shivers running all over your skin.”
