One Direction’s Week in Review: 11/14

The band is on a break, but the boys aren’t.

One Direction last performed together on a Sunday night, Dec. 13th, 2015, on the season finale of the British iteration of “The X Factor.” They sang a single from their fifth album, accepted accolades from Simon Cowell and others, and then vanished into the night to begin a hiatus with no end-date. Between them, in the months since they last took the stage, they have officially announced very little — two solo record deals, the birth of a child, the founding of a golf management company. But each week they are out in the world, doing things, going places. This is what we know.

On Sunday night, Niall Horan attended the American Music Awards. He performed his single “This Town,” gave Selena Gomez a hug, and gave Zayn Malik handshake. Backstage, he and Shawn Mendes sang a duet together.

On Wednesday, Louis Tomlinson went to Starbucks. He also went to Las Vegas, where he hung out with Steve Aoki and his usual cabal of adjacents, including longtime companion Oli Wright and a guy known to fans for many years as simply “Hot Luke.” They all looked fine.

Harry Styles attended a party in LA and posed for a pic with a fan. He wore a white tee, an open pink button-down with black piping, and sunglasses on his head. Will he ever smile again? Who knows.

On Wednesday, Liam Payne had a shoot of some kind — photo shoot? video shoot? skeet shoot? duck shoot? — and ate Chinese food after. On Friday, he celebrated the five-year anniversary of the band’s first album with a tweet.

A short video from 2015 surfaced of Harry Styles staring into a camera and saying, “Hi, Sue” in an affected voice while looking extremely exactly like a woman, and I only watched it like, five times. I was largely unmoved. This is not normal.
