Everyone Gets Weird at the Indie Pop Slumber Party

A true grown-up slumber party is a beautiful thing, and Hairpin pal Emmie Lichtenberg’s new web series from FKR.TV, the David Cross-headed offshoot of Frenchkiss Records, uses all the classic elements of the form (pizza party, Truth or Dare) plus beer and a whole lot of crazy as a way to get to know the people behind your most sleepover-friendly alt pop. The first installment of “Slumber Party @emmieshouse” features MSMR, future guests include Charli XCX and Marina & the Diamonds, and judging from the premiere episode’s prank call — “Hello? Is this Emmie’s mom? This is Dr. Stanley Buffalo Chickenwrap, Emmie’s physician. I am calling to let you know she has been diagnosed with a very rare, very severe butt disease” — as well as a trailer that includes Charli XCX doing a country version of “Say My Name,” this is a series that may end up rivaling the slowed-down “Gimme Pizza” as top-of-the-line childhood wack.
