And just like that, the little miracle of Friday is here again. A moment to recognize that this month is, just as predicted, shaping up to be a dark time for many of us; another moment to recognize all the things that are not Congressional Republicans fighting to keep health care away from poor people, like this pit bull named TaterTot who rescued a 4-year-old a week after being rescued himself.

Anyway! Here’s an impressive debut single from Naomi Pilgrim, an artist from Sweden-by-way-of-Barbados, who used to sing backup for Lykke Li. Like last Friday’s song from Mapei, “No Gun” is impeccably produced, full of hybrid soul. Also recommended for today: Wet’s “Don’t Wanna Be Your Girl,” a slow-burning torch song with a melody that’s like Rhye in primary colors.
