Books We Forgot We Loved: Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry
by Matthew Gallaway
For the second installment Pin Reads: Books We Forgot We Loved, we’re going to tackle Lonesome Dove, by Larry McMurtry. I haven’t read it in more than 20 years, but I think I remember loving it. (I also think I wanted the two main characters to go “all the way” because they were so clearly in love with each other?) The New York Times called it “The Great Cowboy Novel,” and it won a Pulitzer for fiction in 1986. Plus Edith read it last summer and thought it rocked. So go pick up a copy and we’ll discuss in a month or two. It’s almost 1000 pages, so you’re going to have to read fast. Oh and if anyone has any ideas about themes/motifs/allusions to look out for as we read (e.g., parallels to Moby Dick?), leave in the comments so we can all be “on the same page” lol. Happy reading!
