One Direction’s Week in Review: 10/10

The band is on a break, but the boys aren’t.

Louis Tomlinson flew to London on Wednesday. He did not stop for pictures, but fans reported that as he drove away, he called out, “They won’t let me stop, I’m so sorry, I love you.” On Thursday, he tweeted that he was sorry he could not attend a fundraiser for Yorkshire Children, a children’s charity that he supports.

On Tuesday, fans saw Harry Styles outside of Barry’s Bootcamp in London, where they were waiting for him as he left. He declined to pose for photos, but did hug fans. On Thursday, he retweeted an Oxfam tweet about hurricane aid in Haiti. The organization’s official Twitter responded, thanking him for his support.

Liam Payne saw Justin Bieber perform at London’s 02 Arena on Saturday. On Monday it was announced that he had signed with Republic Records in North America. (He signed with Capitol Records UK in July.) The release from Republic promised “new music coming soon.”

On Thursday, Niall Horan appeared on the UK chat show A League of Their Own alongside Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw and Late Late Show host James Corden. On the show, which was recorded in July, Horan did a little dance and joked about his bandmates. On Friday, he appeared on the Graham Norton Show where he talked about going back to Ireland and performed “This Town” live for the first time. He taped the appearance on Thursday at ITV studios in London; outside he met and bantered with fans. Later that night, went to the Toy Room nightclub.

Ben Winston, executive producer of the Late Late Show With James Corden, longtime One Direction music video director, and friend of the boys, turned 35. Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber’s manager, posted a group photo of his birthday party in London; Niall Horan was among the attendees.

Harry Styles’s sister Gemma Styles and Louis Tomlinson’s sister Lottie Tomlinson both posted sponsored posts on Instagram for the app Badoo. Gemma Styles, a writer, has 3.4 million followers on Instagram; Lottie Tomlinson, a make-up artist, has 2.9 million.

Louis Walsh, who served as a judge on The X Factor the season the boys were on it, was interviewed about the band. “Too much money, too much success too quickly,” he said. “Simon Cowell created monsters and that was it. They all think they’re going to be solo stars. They’re not. Only Harry. That’s it. Then they’ll be sorry they broke up and it’ll be too late because there’s another boy band. That’s what always happens in boy bands.” He also said that he thought Liam Payne and Cheryl Ann Tweedy Cole Fernandez-Versini were a good couple. “I think Liam and Cheryl are going to work… He’s a nice guy and he’s in love with her.”
