One Direction’s Week in Review: 10/3
The band is on a break, but the boys aren’t.
On Friday in London, Harry Styles attended a celebration for his issue of Another Man magazine at Albert’s, a private club in West London. The event was co-hosted by Styles, Another Man creative director Allister Mackie, and Dior Homme creative director Kris Van Assche. Attendees included Styles’s sister Gemma (pictured); his managers Jeff Azoff and Tommy Bruce, Azoff’s girlfriend Glenne Christiaansen, and friends Tomo Campbell, Tom Atkin, and Lou Teasdale.
Styles wore a black Dior Homme suit, a black Rockins tie, black velour boots, and a friendship bracelet of unknown origin. His fingernails were painted black, save the ring finger on his left hand, which was left bare. Earlier in the week, he was spotted at the London location of Barry’s Bootcamp wearing a fur-lined parka and a trucker hat. The sighting came one month to the day from the last time he was seen in public; it was the longest stretch he has been unseen since the earliest days of the band.
Niall Horan returned to London to continue promo for his new single. On Wednesday, he visited Greg James at the BBC; on Thursday he spoke to Eoghan McDermott on RTE’s 2 FM. Friday he went to the Gavin James concert. Sunday night he spent a quiet evening in, “Just laying here watching and TV and thinking . Really looking forward to going to cities and maybe seeing them this time . Hahaha .”
Liam Payne worked on his solo album in LA with Pharrell. On Tuesday, he went on a drive along the Pacific Coast Highway, though he briefly thought it was Wednesday; the then reflected on arbitrary nature of the calendar. On Sunday, he flew back to London; that night, he and girlfriend Cheryl Ann Tweedy Cole Fernandez-Versini dined at Nobu.
Every days a weekend these days anyway 😉
Louis Tomlinson was not spotted out this week. He was last seen Sept. 29 in LA.
Notable Adjacent News
During an interview with Australian radio station 2DayFM, the band 5 Seconds of Summer, who opened for One Direction on the Take Me Home tour in 2013, were asked about Harry Styles’s magazine covers. “It reminds me of Mick Jagger or something. We always thought he looked like that. When we saw the Rolling Stones and he was there, it was like, when they look at each other, is the universe going to end?,” said Luke Hemmings. “It would just implode,” said Ashton Irwin.
Hairstylist Anthony Turner, who cut and styled Styles’s hair for the Another Man shoot, told Vogue that Styles’s “jaw dropped to the floor” when he first saw the result of the chop. Turner, like literally everyone who has ever met him and lived to speak of it, was impressed by Styles: “He’s a cheeky quintessential Brit boy — an absolute pleasure to work with, which you don’t want to hear, but it’s true,” he told the magazine. He also called him “a very handsome boy,” another common assessment.
