The Sun Sets Today at 7:32 PM: A Poem

Seven thirty-two PM
Opposite of hidden gem
Yes indeed I must condemn
This early sunset time

Used to be eight thirt’ or so
The dying of the sunny glow
“Hello,” you’d say, yes, hi, hello
When it was still daytime

Now it’s gonna be real dark
“Cursed be such a remark!”
Get on down to the ballpark
You’re running out of time

Goodnight, my friend, you will now say
Hours still left in the day
Close your eyes to hit the hay
Oh no it’s still worktime

Sleepy, sleepy, and depressed
In the dark you will get dressed
And in the dark you will undress
Living life in the dark

Looking out office window
Got to be seven, or so?
Oh, it’s just four. Ohh. Oh.
Confused because it’s dark

Walking home from ballet class
Falling on your ballet ass
Underneath the underpass
Just ’cause it was dark

“You must try this new SAD lamp!”
“Go to meditation camp!”
“Think good thoughts, you little champ!”
It’s just going to get darker and darker earlier and earlier until we are living in essentially permanent darkness

Seven thirty-two PM
Opposite of hidden gem
O, indeed! I must condemn
This early sunset time
