Horror From The Old Internet
by Alexandra Molotkow
Do you remember Caverns of Blood? It was a very basic HTML site (Angelfire hosted?) in which you clicked through motley horrors in search of the “Cave of Jewels.” Pick up the wrong gooey, dilapidated skull and you might be “unceremoniously sucked into some kind of foul smelling, gyrating vortex” toward the Cave of Butchery, where “the rank, corrupt aroma is so septic and revolting that, with an explosive surge of helplessness, you ultimately vomit without constraint! You are very pale and debilitated at this moment.”
A thrill up there with perusing Cannibal Corpse CDs at HMV. Scared the heck out of me when I was eight.
