Emma Bunton, “Maybe”

by Alexandra Molotkow

I know, I know, Mel C. and Mel B. and, I guess, Ginger, but I think this is my favorite post-Spice Girls solo hit. Emma had another good one in “Crickets Sing for Anamaria” but that’s a Marcos Valle song so, sorry Baby.

The video embarrasses me — I do like that she arrives in a vulva — but only because of the whole Down with Love, space-age ’60s motif, which needs another couple of decades to work again. (Who am I kidding I loved Down with Love.) I’m totally in favor of ensemble dancing and think life would be much better generally if we choreographed more routines with our friends.

One thing I love about this song is how reusable it is. It’s not a song you attach to a person, it’s a song for The New Person, whoever they are. “Maybe it’s nothing/Maybe it’s all just in my mind/Maybe I’m foolish/Maybe it’s just a waste of time/BUT I DON’T THINK SO.” Of course you don’t! lol

Ohhhh OK bonus:
