R.B., The Original G.

CARMON: And when the time comes, what would you like to be remembered for?

GINSBURG: Someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better through the use of whatever ability she has. To do something, as my colleague David Souter would say, outside myself. ’Cause I’ve gotten much more satisfaction for the things that I’ve done for which I was not paid.

Irin Carmon interviewed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and it is an absolute delight. Here are some facts about RBG:

1) She can do 20 pushups (“same!”)
2) She used to not like certain foods, but now she does (same!)
3) She was a little drunk during the State of the Union (SAAAAAAAME)
4) She’s not going anywhere anytime soon: “My successor will be the choice of whatever president is sitting at that time. But I’m concerned about doing the job full steam. And I’ve said many times, once I sense that I am slipping, I will step down. Because this is a very intense job. It is by far the best and the hardest job I’ve ever had. And it takes a lot of energy and staying power to do it right. So that is when I will step down, when I feel I can no longer do the job full steam.” Keep on keepin’ on, Ruth.
