Cool Jeopardy Stories

The second-best part of Jeopardy! is when Alex Trebek asks the contestants to share an anecdote. The first best part of Jeopardy! is whenever there is a question about The Simpsons, and then it’s my time to shine. I like to imagine each contestant submits a bunch of fascinating stories to the producer before the show (“I was raised by wolves,” “Alex Trebek is my illegitimate father and I’ve spent my life trying to get on Jeopardy! to reconnect with him.”) but the producers always end up asking them about the most mundane. My all-time favorite is: “My cat is orange, but in certain lights looks kinda pink.”

Anyway, this popped up on my timeline recently and now I am obsessed.

Sometimes I like to daydream about what anecdote I would share were I to make it on Jeopardy! one day.

“Once, I started to plan a trip to Japan, but eventually got distracted and lost interest. I still think it would be fun to go someday, but it just doesn’t make sense right now financially.”

“I’ve seen the guy who plays the dad from Gilmore Girls hanging out around my neighborhood…twice. Rory’s dad, not Lorelei’s dad. Lorelei’s dad would have been cool.”

“My favorite episode of 30 Rock is the one where they sing the Gladys Knight song. My second favorite episode is the one where Liz Lemon dates Jon Hamm, and he turns out to be really dumb. No wait, my second favorite episode is the one where Tracy wants to go to space. The Jon Hamm one is my fourth favorite. I don’t have a third favorite.”

“People assume that just because I was an English major in university, I enjoy reading books. That’s a fairly accurate assumption.”

“I never really cared much for olives growing up and then one day I tried an olive as an adult and they’re not my favorite food or anything but they’re ok.”

“Wait, I got it: my third favorite episode of 30 Rock is the one where Liz is trying to buy an apartment and has to impress the co-op board. Wait, is that the same episode as the Gladys Knight one? Never mind, then.”
