Strawberry Switchblade, “Jolene”

Gorilla vs. Bear posted this amazing video a couple of months ago, of the Scottish goth-pop/new wave duo Strawberry Switchblade covering the evergreen “Jolene” live on Japanese television in the ’80s, and seeing Dolly Parton’s new album Blue Smoke streaming on NPR’s First Listen has prompted me to re-watch the magnificence. Lykke Li’s latest is up at NPR as well, and if you need something more high-octane to get you started this week, may I recommend the female version of Chris Brown’s “Loyal,” coming at you courtesy of Keyshia Cole, Mila J, K. Michelle, Lil Mo and Da Brat.
