There Are Fewer Women Working in Film Today Than 16 Years Ago

Via AVClub: Women made up 16 percent of the nearly 3,000 employees surveyed, which is down 2 percent from last year — and what’s more, down 1 percent from the numbers in 1998. These numbers come from a study tracking the 2,938 people working on the 250 top-grossing films of the past year, so it’s not fully comprehensive, but it’s still… interesting. Also, women are “most likely to work in drama, comedy, and documentary films, and least likely to work in animation, sci-fi and horror titles.”

My, our warm hearts and nurturing natures are certainly showing, aren’t they! I’m guessing women just don’t want to work in this industry. God knows what you’d have to do to get 13-year-old girls in film, I’d have to stop and think about that.
