Rilo Kiley, “Emotional”
Whither the Jenny Lewis fangirls? My hand’s up, anyway. The Rilo Kiley rkives collection of B-sides is nearly as good as anything the band ever put out (and much better than 2007’s Under the Blacklight), and “Emotional” is a bright spot that feels both familiar (there’s that rhythmic spike of primary-color guitar riffs, and an unhurried, slightly country-inflected melody) and new (it’s reminiscent of the feel of More Adventurous, but minus the twee pitching). And the video, released yesterday, is a bunch of creepy footage of amusement parks from the ‘50s!
