Happy Friday, everyone! Let’s get going with the new single from Lorde, who also recently did an impressive cover of Kanye West’s “Hold My Liquor.” In the wake of her now-official chart-topping status, girlfriend is still walking the fine line between artless and perfectly controlled (this new single’s lyrics go “We live in cities you’ll never see onscreen/ Not very pretty but we sure know how to run free,” and “I’m kind of over gettin’ told to throw my hands up in the air” — bless you, Lorde). I’m bracing myself for a backlash as our out-of-touch aunts start to say things like “Have you heard of this LORDY girl?”, but I’m staying on this one’s team.
