Which Song Is Better? Nope, You’re Wrong

The fine trolls at Grantland launched their “Best Song of the Millennium” bracket today, and it is important that we use this space to complain about the choices, the seeds, the current leaders, and the many injustices of life itself, generally. I’ll start: I do not want to live in a world in which “Feel Good Inc.” outpaces “Rehab.” I do not want to live in a world in which “Umbrella” outpaces “Int’l Players Anthem (I Choose You),” which, we can all agree, has the greatest letting-of-the-beat-build of all time. I will allow a world in which the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps” outpaces Beyoncé’s “Crazy In Love” because I understand the longterm influence factor, however, even if I don’t agree with it on a fundamental/ I-am-a-shameless-Stan level.

There is much here to discuss, and much here to suggest that the end is nigh. The Killers’ “Mister Brightside” is beating T.I.’s “What You Know” by about 50 percent; Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep” is thumping Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” by an 80–20 margin; I can’t go on. Go vote, if you can handle it. And can someone check on Jia? I think she may have had a conniption. [Grantland]
