San Fermin, “Daedalus (What We Have)”

Big day for those who love orchestral pop: this is “Daedalus (What We Have),” the second single off San Fermin’s upcoming self-titled debut (their first track “Sonsick” is hands down one of my favorite songs of 2013, as my past blurbs may have already made clear). “Daedalus” starts off in Nick Cave/Andrew Bird territory and swells in this technical, ornate way towards an incredible Dirty Projectors/Illinoise-era Sufjan Stevens finish; it’s gorgeous.

On a similar note, here’s a raw love song with swirly, hysterical instrumentation in “Fall Back,” the only totally new song on Zola Jesus’s Versions, which is a set of orchestral re-arrangements of her forceful goth-rock.
