Miley Cyrus, “We Can’t Stop”

It feels too early for all of the music I want to share with you today, but I think the real issue is that it’s a rainy Monday here in New York, so here goes. “We Can’t Stop” is the latest single from Miley Cyrus, and her first release since 2010. It’s about partying — specifically, it’s about not being able to stop partying. Miley is incapable of stopping the party, it turns out. “It’s our party, we can do what we want to,” she sings. This will be a good song to play when people are harshing your mellow this summer. The track is produced by the great Mike Will Made It, who has the best DJ drop in music right now (second only to the timeless “damn, son”).

There’s also “Girls Just Gotta Have Fun,” the first full-scale video from Sophia Grace Brownlee, one-half of the British duo made famous by Ellen and co-sponsored by Nicki Minaj. Sophia Grace is 10 years old and is, along with her cousin Rosie, already the most adept red carpet interviewer the red carpet has ever seen, but it is still quite bizarre to see a tiny British girl in pink rap the lyric, “Haters gonna hate and they gon’ chit-chit-chatter.” You are encouraged to watch at your own risk.

And finally, last week Vulture had the brilliant idea of getting DJ/producer Diplo’s recommended summer playlist together, and it is predictably great. Consider it a palate cleanser, I guess. Let it get you through the week and into Saturday’s BBQ.

Edit: One more thing. TLC BACK?
