Extreme Mustang Makeover

This is Day One of the four month process that ended with the extremely talented Elisa Wallace* and her shockingly mellow wee gelding, Fledge (hopefully a Magician’s Nephew reference!) winning this year’s Extreme Mustang Makeover competition. Their freestyle championship ride is obviously impressive (I do wish the contest wouldn’t put so much pressure on riders to push green horses quite this far in a short amount of time), but it’s more interesting to show how tentative and flighty a virtually untouched horse is, and how every single moment is a test that you need to pass to get their trust.

*Actually wearing a helmet to ride!
