Sputter! Gasp!

Perhaps you may have watched many interminable previews of “Stars Earn Stripes” while waiting for NBC to get back to Tom Daley’s abs? You will not necessarily be shocked! shocked! to learn that other people find the idea gross as well.

Today, nine Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, including former South Africa Archbishop Desmond Tutu, protested the show in an open letter, saying the series glorifies war and “armed violence.”

Deemed a fast-paced competition on the show’s website, the series pairs eight celebrities including singer Nick Lachey, actor Dean Cain and Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street with former members of the Marines, Green Berets and other armed forces to compete for a cash prize (going to the charity of the winners choosing). The contestants go through military-style training including firing weapons and jumping out of helicopters.

Are the contestants concerned? Nah. They didn’t come here to make friends.
