The Gift That Keeps on Giving

Recommending books is my favourite thing in the whole world, which is why I have repurchased Mary Wesley’s Jumping the Queue on four separate occasions. And so, once a week, I will select a ‘Pinner to be the recipient of my largess and my friendless, obsessive, pale childhood.

You are to email me the titles of your three favourite books. Or, if one of those books is The Velveteen Rabbit, your three favourite books that aren’t The Velveteen Rabbit. Then we will have a post to discuss your choices, and you shall receive the title of a fourth book of my choosing. Do-overs can be dealt with in the comments, dissent is heartily welcome, and we encourage you to patronize your local libraries before they become a word you will have to explain to your children, like “apothecary” or “gramophone.”

Okay? It’s really not that complicated, it’s not a monkey’s paw scenario, or anything. Just books! You are not awful if your favourite book is Hamlet, and you are not awful if your favourite book is Atlas Shrugged. You are all unique butterflies to me.

THAT BEING SAID, there is one law that is not to be broken: I have done this before in my previous life, and everyone wants to recommend Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. It eventually wears on one. Let’s just say now, for the record: you should go ahead and read Good Omens. It is great. You are still allowed to list it as one of your books.

Let’s play! I will do our first installment…Monday.
