Happy Friday the 13th, Part Two
“This year is a special one for Friday the 13ths: There are three of them: Jan. 13, April 13 and July 13. The freaky thing? The dates fall exactly 13 weeks apart.” That’s freaky fact No. 1 (which I guess we knew 13 weeks ago) in this list of Thirteen Freaky Facts About Friday the 13, the freakiest of which is that “[s]uperstitious diners in Paris can hire a quatorzieme, or professional 14th guest,” to join dinner parties of 13. What! Amazing. (Imagined cocktail-hour conversation, if Europeans talked about this kind of thing: “And before that I was a quatorzieme, like my father and his father before us.”) See you back here in July, hopefully.
