Elle Varner, “Refill”
Want to hear something neat? The rising 22-year-old, LA-born R&B; musician Elle Varner sings over a tightly looping bluegrass fiddle (!) on what’s likely the second single off her forthcoming debut album, Perfectly Imperfect. (Her first was the popular “Only Wanna Give It to You” — a collaboration with [26-year-old] rapper J. Cole.) It makes you wish that fiddle tension would explode into full-on boot-stomping, but maybe next time.
