Boys on Tape

Okay, switching it up this week because of the holiday. So, very TAL-centric, sorry, but so when you first start working at This American Life, you have to practice cutting interview tape. The raw interview for this story is one that they use. It’s like two hours of hilarity and insanity involving a pet chicken and Jonathan Gold of Gourmet and being Jonathan Gold fame. The exercise is impossible and you inevitably fail miserably when you turn in a 45 minute cut that makes no sense. (The one that aired very tenuously makes sense at a mere 14 minutes.) So, in honor of this bird-related holiday, here’s that segment which first aired as part of the “Poultry Slam” episode in the late ’90s. Warning: they talk about eating animals. Enjoy! Bawk-ba-gawk.
