Are You My Daughter?

This week New York Magazine has a super long profile about Nejdra Nance. Do you remember her? She’s the woman who figured out at 23 that she was kidnapped from a hospital in the Bronx as a baby. It’s a pretty incredible and impossible reunion story. My favorite of the genre, though, is about Luz Cuevas and her daughter Delimar. Short version: There was a fire in Luz’s home and everyone assumed her baby had perished in the blaze. Fast forward six years, Luz is at a kid’s birthday party and sees a little girl and is like “That’s my baby.” So she walks over, tells the girl she has gum in her hair, PULLS A STRAND OUT OF HER HEAD, gets it DNA tested, boom. It’s her kid. Amazing.
