Ex-Catholic Schoolgirls, About That Kilt?

(Or, you know, if you went to a different sort of school that required kilts, no hate.)
Were there various meanings ascribed to how you wore your kilt pin? I seem to recall that if the thicker part was facing down, you had a boyfriend, and if the thicker part was facing up, you were single, and if you didn’t wear a pin at all, you were a BIG DYKE, and the school forced you to wear a pin, so, obviously you weren’t able to be a lesbian even if you wanted to.
Also, my school didn’t have a length requirement, so everyone rolled their kilt up a billion miles as though having a weird ball of fabric skootched up above their hips was a great look.
Memories jogged by Friday’s Sears Catalog, obviously.
