The Top Nail Gadgets of Today and Tomorrow

Are your nails stuck in the 20th century? Tear them out of whatever freaky time machine you dangled them through, and then bring them up to date with these exciting nail-related advancements.

Nail files
If you want to spice up your emery-board situation, there’s this adorable Tweezerman nail file in a zip case ($5). I don’t think nail files actually need to be in cases, though, but just look at it! Aw. I’m in love with a zipper [-style nail file and nail file case].

And if you’re too lazy to file your own nails, a machine will do it for you: The Kiss Deluxe Rechargeable Nail File ($19.99) comes with 12 (!) “interchangeable attachments,” from medium grit barrel files to small medium grit discs to large coarse grit discs. Intense!

Nail art
How do those nail stickers you’re seeing in magazines these days work, anyway? Other than in the most straightforward method imaginable? OPI’s popular Chic Print for Nails stickers ($15 for 16 patches of varying widths) come in 16 patterns, and once you’ve picked out the one you want (I like the weird checkered ones), you cut the patches to fit your nails, rub them to warm up the adhesive, then press them onto your fingernails. That’s it. Then “press material over edge of nail and use an ultra fine crystal file to file off excess.” Cheaper (and better, and available in more patterns) are Sally Hansen Nail Polish Strips ($10 from Amazon, also for 16 strips), which are awesome and come in Collide-o-Scope, possibly the queen of all nail sticker art patterns. Here’s a hypnotic and strangely beautiful video tutorial.
