Uh Oh, Expensive Prom Dresses
“My parents pretty much said to get whatever dress I liked.”
— Some of today’s teenagers are spending upward of $750 on designer prom dresses (or, their parents are), but oh well, hopefully they’ll have a fun time. Plus, “No one is buying Chanel couture who would normally shop at J. Crew,” says one 17-year-old, which is probably supposed to be reassuring, except wait, what’s the reassurance there? That normal people aren’t ruining themselves by dropping thousands of dollars on dresses they can’t afford, thank goodness, it’s just the people who can afford thousand-dollar dresses who’re buying the thousand-dollar dresses? Ahh, who cares, teenagers are idiots. It doesn’t matter what your dress cost as long as you look prettier than your friends.
