Happy Hour: The Hangover Cure
by Diana Vilibert
I have three rules when it comes to hangovers:
1. After 21, no one’s interested in hearing how hungover you are.
2. Delete all drunk texts immediately after you send them. The physical hangover often pales in comparison to the emotional hangover of having to re-read your mortifying attempt at sexting under the influence of six drinks. (Have you ever sent a booty text so severely misspelled that the dude texted back asking what language you were writing in? No? Cool. Juuust checking.)
3. When in doubt, turn to the pros, who will undoubtedly say/slur “the hair of the dog.” The Russians, if I may reveal my family’s secret hangover cure, reach for another shot of vodka come morning. The Irish look to cider (for the water and sugar content, allegedly). I recently tried this breakfast cocktail of champions by Dublin master mixologist Darren Geraghty, and giiirl, it will clear your headache and your sinuses. But not your conscience : (
Hair of the Dog
2 ounces tomato juice
2 dashes Tabasco
8 ounces (alcoholic) Irish cider (like Magners)
Add juice and Tabasco to serving glass, then top with cider.
Previously: Gin for Breakfast.
