You May Want to Resist the Springtime Inclination to Make Babies

by Liz Colville

Like some previous research on babies born in autumn and winter, a new Finnish study suggests that babies conceived in early spring are more likely to have allergies due to the mother’s contact with increased pollination, Vitamin D and viruses that time of year. In the study, babies whose first three months of fetal development ended in April or May were three times more likely to be allergic to milk and eggs. But then the study authors go, don’t plan your pregnancies around a specific time, because we don’t totally know what we’re talking about.
