“I’m Sorry, I Didn’t Bring My Constitution With Me”
by Liz Colville
Today in the hopefully soon-to-be-canceled sitcom that is Christine O’Donnell’s senate candidacy, the Republican from Delaware participates in another debate with Democratic candidate Chris Coons. At one point, Coons clarifies for O’Donnell that the First Amendment refers to the separation of church and state, which O’Donnell has a hard time believing…even after Coons recites the text of the amendment to her.
Later in the debate, O’Donnell is asked if she would try to repeal the 14th, 16th or 17th Amendments if elected. She says no, she would not repeal the 17th Amendment, then asks the debate questioner to define the 14th and 16th Amendments for her, adding, “I’m sorry, I didn’t bring my Constitution with me.” Zing!
